The Translation

For starters Stargate-Project (SGP) was interested in how Rudolf Martin (RM) got the role.

RM considered it a regular casting, taken place in LA. He did a few scene readings on video, without knowing all of the episodes script. He liked the well-written dialogues. His auditioning tape was sent to Vancouver and obviously the producers liked it.

Asked if he knew the series, he denied having ever watched a single episode, since he hasn't cable at home. But he heard about it and a friend claimed it a very good series. After arriving in Canada he watched a couple of episodes.

The interviewer of SGP already had the chance to visit the set back in June and remembered the excellent catering there. RM agreed on that. He liked the servings a lot.

Questioned for the character he's playing, he revealed his characters name was Anateo. Anateo is an eager second commander with a special weakness for women and wining & dining.

SGP asked for the exact part of his character in this episode. RM explains that Anateos eagerness causes some trouble, some kind of rebellion, hostages are taken, a coup attempted. He considered it safer not to give too much away.

The thing that comes first to RM's mind when thinking about his time on SG, is the set of a space ship, probably Odyssey. He got lost there a couple of times. At some point he gave up and just looked for a quiet place on the ship to prepare for his scenes. The shimmering star-studded sky on the walls provided a really relaxing atmosphere.

Working with the regular SG1-cast RM recalled as pretty good and relaxed, a calm set with a sense of humour. Seemingly they didn't do it the first day.

Most scenes he did with Amanda Tapping of the main cast. She was nice and RM even met her daughter.

SGP tried again to get more information on the episode he appeared in. According to RM the episode is about a power struggle within the Lucian Alliance. Anateo adds fuel to it, considers Netan too soft and tries to get other second commanders on his side. Netan misjudges the situation, it gets serious and brutal; Renegade ships in a civil war and Colonel Carter in crossfire. That's as much background as he can give, but telling that he enjoyed playing Anateo is probably not that much a spoiler.

SGP told him that SG1 made history by breaking an old The X Files record with this episode. It was episode #203. They wondered if that changed something on the set. RM wasn't aware of that but congratulated on that achievement assuming the series has lots of loyal fans out there and felt especially proud to be part of that exact episode.

So far there is no other episode with his character planned, but still RM isn't sure if he got his end in the episode right.

Talking about the humour on set let SGP wonder about special anecdotes RM may wanted to share.

All of the shooting was a nice and relaxing experience. His personal highlight was being beamed as he used to watch on Enterprise as a kid. The whole set was in a hurry, the producer didn't offer any clues, but just like any kid, he instinctively knew how the beaming thing worked.

Unfortunately he didn't meet any of the Atlantis-cast. RM can even see himself meeting SG-Fans on a fan convention.

At the moment RM works on a maybe little but still very interesting movie called "Anomie", shot in LA. In addition to this he makes recurring guest appearances on a new showtime series (Dexter), starting in the states this fall. It's an interesting mixture of different genres, somewhat CSI:Miami meets Six Feet Under.

SGP kindly thanked RM for answerring their questions and wished all the best for his career. And of course they're looking forward to watching the episode.

RM was flattered about the interest and returned the thanks.
